Abstract

“Guduchi”(Tinospora cordifolia) is an important drug of Indian system of medicine and used since time immemorial. Ghana kalpana, a secondary derivative preparation of kwath kalpana, is one of the extraction methods in which maximum of water soluble as well as a little amount of water insoluble materials are extracted by heating, then reheating till it gets converted into solid form. We had selected three batches for Guduchi Ghana considering the different proportions of the water i e. 4 times, 8 times and 16 times of the water for preparation of the Kwath as one concept is that quantity of the Ghana is directly proportional to the quantity of the water used for preparation of the kwath. Yield of Ghana was 33.33 gm, 41.69 gm and 50.25 gm i.e. 1.66%, 2.05% and 3.12% respectively in batch 1, 2 & 3.Thus the quantity of Ghana obtained is not directly proportional to the amount of water used for preparation of kwath of the drug.
