• A REVIEW ON PHARMACOLOGICAL ACTIVITIES OF DASHEMANI GANAS OF CHARAKA SAMHITA

Abstract


Ayurveda is the only science which explains about achievement of complete health and spiritual life. And the root of Ayurveda is herbs, and the pharmacological activities of these herbs explained in Ayurvedic classical texts like Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita, Astanga Hrudaya, and various Nighantus like Bhavaprakasha Nighantu, Raja nighantu, Dhanvantari Nighantu etc.  The word Dashemani means group of drugs comprises ten drugs in each group.  The drugs possessing same qualities and having same therapeutic effects are grouped under one group viz; Jeevaniya, Brimhanaiya, Balya, Kustagna, Kandugna, Prajasthapana etc.  The present review reveals the various groups of drugs according to Charaka Samhita which explain about the pharmacological activities and therapeutic applications. Here an attempt is made that the Ganas of Charaka Samhita have been brought in one plat form so that one should easily get the references. Further scope of the study is to make available these Dashemani Ganas without changing or substituting their classical name and as per pharmacopeial standards in the market along with clinical trials and authentic evaluation.
